How Many People Die In Los Angeles Car Accidents Every Year?

If you have recently been in a car accident, you may be wondering what the likelihood is of dying from your injuries. When you do not know what steps to take following a car accident, this can increase your likelihood of suffering from severe, long-term, or life-threatening injuries. If you were recently injured in a car accident and are unsure of what next steps you should take, it is imperative that you seek help from a medical professional immediately and speak with an attorney, like a car accident attorney, to file a claim against the liable party.

Is it common for people to die in car accidents?

The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) provided data stating that almost 300 people died as a result of traffic accidents in 2021. Additionally, over 1,400 people were also seriously injured as a result of car accidents. Unfortunately, both sets of numbers have risen from previous years.

What causes these accidents to happen?

Because of the sheer number of drivers on the road in California, a person is much more likely to get into a car accident in Los Angeles than they are in other parts of the country. There are many other reasons that a person is likely to get into a car accident here, too.

  • Driving distracted. This can happen for any number of reasons. A person may be eating their lunch, putting on makeup, looking at videos, talking on the phone, or texting. They may also be doing something much more innocent, such as changing the radio station or looking at directions to where they are going. In any case, driving distracted could cause them to hit another driver on the road.
  • Speeding. Whether a person is running late for a work meeting, needs to drop their kids off at school on time, or simply enjoys driving fast, speeding is one of the main causes of car accidents. By going too fast, a person may be unable to stop in enough time at a red light, may lose control of their car in bad weather, or may injure a person who has stepped out into the street.
  • Driving under the influence. Whether it is drugs or alcohol, a person who is driving under the influence will not be able to drive safely and carefully. A person with too much alcohol or drugs in their system may not be able to see well, may have a cognitive impairment, or may have slower reflexes.
  • Driving while fatigued. If a person does not get enough sleep, this can have a similar effect on a person as driving under the influence. They may not have the reflexes necessary to keep others–or themselves–safe on the road.

“Mr. Glotzer represented me after I was involved in a car accident. I was badly injured, but the insurance company refused to offer me a reasonable settlement. I decided to find an attorney and decided to hire Josh.

His law firm did a great job on my case. They were very responsive to all my questions and obtained a great resolution for me. I received way more money than was originally offered. I would recommend their firm to friends and family.”
